SCHOOL OF LAW

The UNO-R School of Law is a Catholic, Augustinian Recollect law school committed to the integral formation of future lawyers through academic rigor, ethical grounding, and service-oriented leadership.

Guided by the core values of being maalam (learned, competent, and intellectually grounded) and mabuot (upright, just, and human), the School integrates legal knowledge, professional ethics, and social consciousness in all aspects of its life and governance.

ACADEMIC POLICIES

LAW PROGRAM

The UNO-R School of Law offers a Four (4)-Year and a Five (5)-Year Juris Doctor Programs which are recognized by the Legal Education Board (LEB). 

Shifting from one program to another is only allowed once, and subject to approval of the Dean. However, it is no longer allowed after the completion of two (2) academic years or four (4) semesters. 

Law students are required to show excellent performance manifesting their readiness for the bar examinations in order to complete their Juris Doctor Degrees. 

CURRICULUM

The UNO-R School of Law shall adopt a curriculum that is duly approved by the Legal Education Board (LEB), as may be modified to incorporate Bar Examination syllabi and institutional thrusts.

There shall be a separate curriculum for the 4-Year Juris Doctor Program and for the 5-Year Juris Doctor Program. 

A special course/subject may be offered in order to accomodate students who are affected by the transition in the curriculum. While described as a special course/subject, the same shall be treated as a regular class. 

SYLLABI

Each course/subject shall have a written updated syllabus indicating objectvies, coverage, and methods to be prepared by the faculty and subject to approval by the Dean. 

STUDY LOAD

Law students are not allowed to underload or overload in any semester, unless otherwise stated herein.

Underloading is only allowed if no subject can possibly be taken due to the application of subject sequencing. 

By way of exception and solely at the discretion of the Dean, overloading in a semester may be allowed only when all the following conditions concur:

  1. There is a written request seeking authority to overload filed with the Office of the Dean within the period prescribed for enrollment.
  2. Student is a graduating student.
  3. He or she has a good academic performance in the immediately preceding semester or semesters, subject to strict compliance with the conditions herein provided. 

In no case shall the approved overload exceed six (6) academic units in a given semester. The decision of the Dean on requests for overloading shall be final and executory.

The UNO-R School of Law is a community if responsible professionals and leaders. It has responsibly catered to the legal education needs of the professionals from Western Visayas and Negros Island Region since 1948.

The University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos, Inc. School of law based in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, is an Augustinian Recollect law school under the spiritual guidance of the Order of Agustinian Recollects (OAR) and builds upon the inspirational life and philosophy of St. Augustine. It is one of the three law schools in the Philippines administered by the OAR, the other two being the San Sebastian College- Recolects School of Law in Manila and the University of San Jose-Recoletos School of Law in Cebu City. 

The UNO-R School of Law is the first law school established in the province of Negros Occidental, and is a pioneer in providing quality legal education in the City of Bacolod and he Province of Negros Occidental. 

The UNO-R School of Law is founded on the faithful adherence to the teachings of St. Augustine, especially in the advocacy of ethics, law, and Justice, which leads to the development of the intellectual, ethical, emotional, spiritual and philosophical person; where knowledge as a structure of wisdom must be used for the improvement of our social order; and that the search for truth and justice should lead to a greater concern for plight of the less privileged. The UNO-R School of Law produced its first crop pf graduates in 1952. All throughout its existence, UNO-R School of Law was able to produce topnotchers in the bar examinations, namely:
