UNO-R SDG 2025
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
At the University of Negros Occidental–Recoletos (UNO-R), we believe that authentic education is inseparable from our responsibility to promote environmental stewardship and sustainable development. Inspired by our Augustinian Recollect heritage, we view sustainability not merely as an institutional program, but as a fundamental principle shaping our entire academic identity. We are actively embedding these values into our academic curricula, research agendas, community extension services, and daily campus operations. As we confront global challenges like climate change and social inequality, we recognize that our university must serve as a catalyst for meaningful, lasting change. Through targeted initiatives in sustainable infrastructure, clean energy, water conservation, and waste management, we continue to cultivate a campus that reflects our commitment to caring for creation.
We firmly believe that lasting societal transformation cannot be achieved in isolation but requires deep, collaborative action. By strengthening strategic partnerships with government agencies, industries, and civil society, UNO-R aims to develop innovative, inclusive solutions to local and global challenges. Guided by the moral call of Pope Francis’s Laudato Si’, we view the protection of our common home as an essential expression of our faith. Through these collaborative networks, we aspire to transcend traditional knowledge generation and create measurable, positive impacts in the diverse communities we serve. We are dedicated to forming graduates who understand that true leadership carries a profound responsibility to protect human dignity and safeguard the environment.
Looking ahead, UNO-R envisions becoming a premier Catholic university recognized globally for innovation, sustainability, and transformative education. To achieve this, we will continuously invest in resilient infrastructure, implement robust institutional policies, and expand research that directly contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We aim to empower our students and faculty to become active, ethical agents of sustainable development within their respective professions. Our ongoing participation in world rankings and other global sustainability benchmarks drives our commitment to continuous institutional excellence. I invite our entire community—students, alumni, partners, and friends—to join us in this shared mission of shaping a hope-filled, sustainable future.
