CoEd students set for international teaching internship in Thailand

Education students of the University of Negros Occidental–Recoletos, Inc. (UNO-R) will soon gain hands-on teaching experience in Thailand through an international internship partnership with Darasamutr School in Sriracha, Chonburi.

The two institutions formalized their commitment to collaborate under the Student Internship Abroad Program (SIAP) in a signing ceremony on September 14, with UNO-R President Rev. Fr. Joel A. Alve, OAR, and Rev. Dr. Luechai Chanpoh, Deputy of the Licensee of Darasamutr School, serving as signatories.

The initial deployment of UNO-R student interns is targeted for January 2027, with participating students expected to spend three to four months at Darasamutr School.

Students from the Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English and Social Studies, Bachelor of Physical Education, and Bachelor of Elementary Education programs will be among the first participants in the program.

Dr. Ma. Theresa Chavez, Dean of the UNO-R College of Education, said the program will provide students with an opportunity to gain professional experience while immersing themselves in a different educational and cultural environment.

As part of the arrangement, Darasamutr School will provide the student interns with a lunch allowance five days a week and free accommodation at the school’s dormitory throughout their internship.

The SIAP initiative is expected to enhance the students’ teaching skills, cultural competence, adaptability, and appreciation of international educational practices.

For UNO-R, the partnership represents another step in strengthening its internationalization agenda and expanding global learning opportunities for its students.

The collaboration also lays the groundwork for broader academic and cultural exchanges between the two institutions, further strengthening educational ties between the Philippines and Thailand. / Dr. Yasmin P. Dormido
