UNO-R ATHLETES BANNER ANOPSSAI CONTINGENT

The Palarong Panlalawigan 2019 will open this Sunday at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City with athletes from University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos wearing the colors of the association of Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Association, Inc. (ANOPSSAI) One of the founding schools of the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational Association , UNO-R suspended its NOPSSCEA membership this season and opted not to join its sports, cultural and educational activities. Instead, UNO-R joined then ANOPSSAI sports competition where it dominated most of the events, earning the privilege to represent the league in the annual Provincial Meet. “We are glad to have UNO-R with us this year. Their athletes will certainly boost our chances of winning more medals in the provincials,” Pastor Exequiel Guanzon, ANNOPSAI Vice president said. As the champions, UNO-R Will represent ANNOPSAI in elementary boys and girls’ athletics, high school girls’ athletics, high school boys and girls basketball, 3×3 basketball boys, elementary and high schools boys’ football, high school futsal, arnis, taekwondo and swimming. Three UNO-R Table tennis players will also selected to the ANNOPSAI high school table tennis team that will compete in the provincials against NOPSSCEA champions, represented by VMA Global College, and against the winners from the other congressional areas. In high school volleyball, three boys and three girls from UNO-R team were also selected to represent ANNOPSAI. “Our futsal, arnis, taekwondo and swimming teams were uncontested and will automatically represent ANNOPSAI In the provincials,” UNO-R Sports Coordinator Elma Cosas Tejida said. Aside from the ANNOPSAI Competition, UNO-R also joined the Augustinian Schools Athletic Meet (ASAM) 2019 and captured the championship in elementary and high school boys’ football, women’s chess, high school boys and women’s table tennis, and women’s volleyball. UNO-R settled for the first runner-up honors in high  school girls’ basketball, men’s chess, men’s volleyball, and men’s table tennis; and second runner-up in high school boys’ basketball and men’s basketball during the ASAM.
