GOOD HEALTH & WELL-BEING

The University of Negros Occidental–Recoletos (UNO-R) is committed to promoting the health, safety, and well-being of its students, faculty, staff, and surrounding communities. Through a holistic approach to wellness, environmental health, occupational safety, and sustainable campus operations, the University provides a healthy learning and working environment that supports physical, mental, and social well-being in line with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-Being.

STRATEGIES

UNO-R advances SDG 3 by:

  • Maintaining a safe and healthy campus environment through effective environmental management.
  • Promoting pollution prevention and proper waste management to reduce health risks.
  • Supporting renewable energy initiatives that improve air quality and mitigate climate-related health impacts.
  • Ensuring compliance with environmental and occupational health regulations.
  • Encouraging stakeholder participation in health, safety, and environmental awareness programs.

PROGRAMS & IMPLEMENTATIONS

HEALTHY & SAFE CAMPUS ENVIRONMENT

Through its Pollution Control Office (PCO), UNO-R implements comprehensive environmental management programs that include:

  • Proper waste segregation and disposal
  • Hazardous and laboratory waste management
  • Pollution prevention measures
  • Environmental monitoring and regulatory compliance
  • Stakeholder awareness and satisfaction assessments

These initiatives help maintain a clean, safe, and healthy campus environment while reducing risks associated with environmental pollution.

CLEAN ENERGY FOR HEALTH

UNO-R’s rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) program contributes to healthier campus operations by reducing reliance on fossil fuel-generated electricity and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. During the May 2025–May 2026 reporting period, the University’s operational 801.04 kWp solar PV system generated 644,430.98 kWh of renewable electricity, supplying 25.16% of campus electricity demand and avoiding approximately 454.28 metric tons of CO equivalent emissions. These efforts contribute to cleaner air, climate change mitigation, and improved environmental conditions that support public health.
