University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos officially opened Sportsfest 2019, February 11, 2019 at University Gymnasium. The program started with a parade of seven Colleges together with their Athletes and the College Ambassador and Ambassadress. Rev. Fr. Don H. Besana, OAR, University President said “to all athletes as we start our sports festivities this week. I would like you to enjoy this day, play with all your heart, compete but compete in a healthy way. Sportsmanship is very important. Show respect to opponents and to the officials of the game. Sports is for health. Sportsmanship will remind us all that winners should remain humble and those defeated shall remain with their dignity’’. Meanwhile John Lewis Pabilona, UNORSSGO President, said that the aim of the Sportsfest 2019 is to develop the spirit of sportsmanship and foster unity and friendship. Main purpose is to apply their skills and talents in sports and to expose and develop the physical well-being of the students not just in academic but also in non- academic and extra- curricular activities. Rev. Fr. Amadeo Lucero, OAR, Vice President for Student Welfare, declared the Sportsfest 2019 to officially open. The declaration was followed by the Oath of Sportsmanship and Search for Mr. and Ms. Sportsfest 2019. The program ended with a dance craze.
