Dr. Annabee Claur, Dean of the UNO-R College of Arts and Sciences, led the faculty members of UNO-R in the Negros Island Philosophical Symposium held at Sacred Heart Seminary. The faculty members who joined the symposium were Dr. Carlos Legaspi, Jr; Dr. Julio Jude Rosales; Professor Mauro Ambubuyog. The Sacred Heart Seminary teamed up with NOPSSCEA Committee on Education, where Rev. Fr. Jose Alden Alipin, OAR is an officer, in holding a symposium for Philosophy teachers and students. The Negros Island Philosophical Symposium 2018 (NIPS 2018) was held July 21, 2018 with the roster of speakers on the relevance of Philosophy on Education. The symposium’s theme was Philosophy, Education and Social transformation”. Rev. Fr. Maxell Luwell Aranilla, PhD, Philosophy Professor of DLSU, discussed “Information, Formation and Transformation”; “Rev. Fr. Ronald Quijano, SHS Rector on Pope St. John Paul II’s philosophy of the human person and the challenges of Relativism in education”; Msgr. Joy Gimera, VG discussed “Excellence as a virtue: Plato’s Philosophy of Education” ; Rev. Fr. Segundo Chua III discussed the “Significance of student-centered learning based on E.S. Elliot’s philosophy of education”; and Dr. Dexter Paul Dioso, UNO-R Director of Student Affairs, discussed “Learning by Doing : John Dewey’s philosophy of Education and the challenge to educators”.
