University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos ranked first in the 34th National Civil Engineering Student Quiz 2015 Regional Elimination held at the DPWH Regional Office VI in Fort San Pedro, Iloilo City, last October 06, 2015. Eden Ditchella, a 5th year Civil Engineering student, won first place after outranking other participants from different parts of Region VI. Ditchella topped the point system ranking with a total of 6 points. St. Anthony College- Aklan landed 2nd place while Western Institute of Technology was 3rd place. Her coaches were: Engr. Joenard Urbanozo and Engr. Owen Martir, CE department head. Ditchella will represent the whole region in the national competition. This 34th NCESQ was participated by different schools coming from Aklan, Capiz, Iloilo and Negros Occidental was represented by UNO-R, STI – West Negros University, Carlos Hilado Memorial State College – Talisay, and Fellowship Baptist College. “I never expect that I will win this competition because my partner shan and I was not really prepared for the competition due to examination week. Everything was made possible because I trusted God to take over my answers.” Ditchella said. She will represent Region VI for the upcoming national competition this November 19-21, 2015 during the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE) National Convention at SMX, Bacolod City.
