The Social Work Society under the Social Behavioral Sciences and Social Work Department of the College of Arts and Sciences held its first Commissioning Ceremony on July 22 with the theme “Entrusting of Authority”. The activity aims to instill to the third year and fourth year social work students the importance as well as the responsibilities of being interns who are deployed in various social welfare agencies, organizations, and communities. The giving of pins was done at the oratory after the mass presided by Rev. Fr. Albert A. Pellazar, OAR, Vice- President for Academics. He honored social workers as they are serving and helping “the last, the least and the lost” in our society. It was followed by a program and fellowship dinner at the president’s hall. During the program, Ms. Maribel Gonzales, MSW, Internship professor, gave an orientation on field placement while College of Arts and Sciences Dean Annabee Magbanua delivered the inspirational message. Atty. Ma. Dolores Nalumen, MSW, gave the commissioning message while social work interns Renalie Labangco, Lordielyn Joy Pereyra, Princess Evangelio, Kimberly Lorenton and Mea Mosquera gave messages addressed to their fellow interns and in tribute to their respective supervisors, teachers and parents. The commissioning ceremony successfully gathered the interns, faculty, supervisors and parents of the interns and has made history as it was the first time that they all gathered to show support to the internship endeavors of the students.
